5 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR JEANS LOOKING FRESH AND VIBRANT

Jeans are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. However, if not washed and stored correctly, especially black jeans, they can fade and wear out quickly. To address this issue, Mori will share with you 5 ways to keep your black jeans looking new and vibrant.

Preserving Black Jeans by Storing in the Refrigerator

There are many methods to preserve the color of black jeans. Among them, using the refrigerator is the simplest and most effective way to prevent fading. Follow these three steps:

Step 1: When you first buy black jeans, don’t wash them immediately. Instead, neatly fold them and place them in a clean plastic bag. Opt for a bag with a zip lock to prevent food odors from seeping in.

Step 2: Put the plastic bag in the freezer compartment for about one night. The cold temperature helps remove any unpleasant odors from the jeans, prolongs the color life, and eliminates bacteria clinging to the fabric.

Step 3: After taking the jeans out of the freezer, you can soak them in warm water (around 40°C) for an hour, then wash them again with warm water. Add a little vinegar to the water to enhance color retention and prevent fading during use.

Soaking Jeans in Acidic Water or Vinegar

This is also a very simple method to maintain the color of black jeans and can be easily done at home. Vinegar and acid are common ingredients found in every kitchen. Dissolve vinegar or acid in a basin of cold water and soak newly purchased jeans in this solution.

If you don’t have vinegar or acid available, you can temporarily use saltwater, which provides similar results. Then rinse thoroughly with cold water. Remember, to maintain the color of your jeans, avoid using soap for the first wash.

Preserving the Color of Newly Dyed Jeans

For newly dyed or newly purchased jeans, add salt to the first wash. Remember to use a generous amount of salt. Soak the jeans in this salt mixture for at least 12 hours. Next, rinse the jeans thoroughly with clean water. Avoid using laundry detergent for the first wash, as the bleaching agents in it may cause the color to fade quickly. To preserve the color, hang the jeans inside out to avoid sunlight from fading the color. Additionally, after the first wash with salt, wait another week before washing with soap.

Washing Jeans Properly

Washing jeans correctly is another way to preserve their color and prevent fading. Here are some tips:

Avoid washing jeans too frequently: Black jeans are prone to fading over time. Washing them too often can lead to color loss and fabric stretching. Instead of washing after every wear like other garments, you can wash jeans after 2 – 3 wears.

Turn them inside out when washing: Turning them inside out reduces direct exposure of the dyed surface to water and soap, which can minimize fading.

Choose the lowest spin cycle and temperature: The dye in jeans is susceptible to bleeding during washing, influenced by the spin cycle and water temperature. Therefore, when using a washing machine, opt for the lowest spin cycle and temperature.

Use a mild detergent or color-safe laundry detergent: There are many color-safe laundry detergents available on the market. Using these will help your jeans retain their color better than regular detergents.

Noteworthy is Mori’s durable and fragrant laundry detergent, available in four scents: lovely, comfort, downy, and gold. You can easily choose a fragrance that suits your preferences.
